The European Union – arguably  history’s biggest con.

euroflagFree Trade/ Common Market morphed by stealth  to its present position run by unelected people and whose accounts have never ever been signed off by auditors for the last 18 years.
As there is no realistic chance of any meaningful change being negotiated with the EU we should pull out.

If the present Government had the ‘balls’ and the will to want real change or come out they would have held the referendum in this term of office or invoked Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty that automatically gives a country two years to negotiate or then pull out. That way Article 50 now would fit with the proposed Referendum date of 2017.

The people of Great Britain are entitled to a referendum and the Government that is in power because of the electorate should then accept the result as the will of the people – it is called democracy.

We would not be isolated as the doom mongers claim, there still can be interactions with the EU outside of the EU.

We can do so firstly via membership of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and be able to participate in the internal markets of the EU via adoption into the EEA (European Economic Area) and thus have economic benefits without the onerous political baggage.

We should Invoke Article 50 now then the Referendum should be based on the EFTA /EEA model (it works for other countries e.g. Norway), which gives full access to the single market and covers the political side that we would lose coming out of the EU..

Following this we should then limit the ‘freedom of movement’ with the EEA to just the workers (precluding their dependents and extended families.) Ensuring control of our borders can be aided by our own Bill of Rights to run alongside the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights which is not part of the EU).

The recently announced ‘Reducing access to benefits’ is only tinkering with the problem and at the end of the day it can only happen with EU approval and they view this as discriminatory.

No benefits to be paid for children of migrants that are residing outside the UK.

Many of you may not be aware that benefits are paid to foreign national parents in the UK for children that still live in their home country. The existence of these children is poorly checked and they may never have entered our country at any point. The benefit paid is at a much higher rate than it would be in their home country. A sure-fire recipe for false claims.(Currently around £30 million a year is paid out for family members that live in the rest of the EU).

Great Britain has always punched above its weight and is still capable of doing so,
its GDP is presently growing faster than the rest of Europe.
